If you have ever read John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, then you might remember that the entirety of the third chapter is dedicated to the struggles a turtle faced while trying to cross a road. In the novel, the chapter/turtle’s story was used as a metaphor for the journey that the rest of the characters faced throughout the novel. However, it also depicts the difficulties that turtles face everyday as they attempt to cross the road.
(Now you may be asking yourself if you unknowingly stepped back into an English class, or if I have some fascination with turtles or The Grapes of Wrath. I assure you I don’t.)
I was on my way to meet a friend for lunch to celebrate her birthday, when I saw a baby Gopher Tortoise trying to cross the road. (Where I live, I have seen a lot of these walking around lately.) Wanting to make sure it didn’t get hit by a car, I pulled over, and to see if I could help. Unfortunately, as soon as it made it to the one side, it decided to turn around. Of course, as it does this, another car starts coming it’s way. (As I was already back in my car, I was trying to figure out a way to let the driver of the car know there was a tortoise there — think of me waving my arms around and trying to point at it through my windshield.) Luckily, the car either saw me or saw the tortoise, and it stopped. Which gave the baby tortoise ample time to make it safely to the other side.
When I was getting dressed to meet my friend for lunch, I decided to wear my favorite Paige Denim jeans. When I was going to buy these, I remember my mom asking if I was sure about them, as they are so bright. However, once I started to wear these jeans, she commented how great they looked on. While they might be a tad pricey, they are incredibly soft and comfortable, and the color is amazing. Three words: I love them.
Recently, when I was shopping at Marshalls, I found this 3/4-sleeved shirt from BCBGMAXAZRIA. I knew I wanted this shirt for a few reasons. One, I like the smaller-sized polka dots, and I was looking to incorporate more patterns into my wardrobe. Two, I like how it cinches at the waist, and it mimics the peplum style. Three, while it has sleeves, the material is lightweight, and it is perfect for the hot Florida sun, but I was even able to wear this shirt — with layers — on the “warmer” (60s) days in Germany.
So when you are looking for your next outfit, don’t be afraid to try bright colors. They can look great, especially in contrast to more “subdued” pieces in your wardrobe. Also, try adding patterns into your look, it is easiest to start off with simple ones and gradually work your way up.
In these pictures, you will be able to see I had a special “guest” in one of the shots. (No, it is not the turtle.) One of my dogs, Leia, decided to make her first appearance on my blog today! I for one, am very happy to have her. 🙂

Disclaimer: I won the Bright Lily necklace in a raffle, and I am not being compensated for featuring it in my post. I was lucky enough to be selected as an intern for Six Degrees Hair Ties, which is a start-up accessories company. Any mention of the products offered by Six Degrees is fully my own decision, as I control the full editorial content of my blog, Written in Fashion. I would not include any products that I would not use in my own personal life, and these are my personal choice for hair ties.
